Cape Tribulation

Sure was a tribulation!!! We've had the worst weather - it rained non stop and the camper was leaking! So all our bedding got wet and the car smelled pretty bad.

On day one we went up to Port Douglas, a lovely little town with lots of nice shops and restos, but we thought we'd save some money and camped out in a hidden side street. Wanted to make sure the police wouldn't rumble us, so we closed the windows and left the curtains open and parked in front of a hotel. The three of us were sweating buckets... it was so hot, it rained lots and roof leaked. Seriously, the only other time I was that sweaty, I was sitting in a steam room - uff!

Then on to Cape Tribulation, which was fantastic. We were driving through the rainforest in the rain, very athmospheric, and even saw a wild cassowary. It's like a really big turkey on long legs with a blue head and long toenails. It uses its toenail to disembowel you when feeling threatened ... oh dear .... The beach at Cape Trib was lovely too and the whole area is gorgeous with mangroves and all kinds of vegetation.

Also went to Mossman Gorge, again beautiful and pristine with great swimming holes and fantastic scenery. On to Kuranda, up a hill for great views and just more rainforest and of course, rain... well, it was amazing overall.

Returned to Cairns then to make sure Matt caught his flight to NZ, celebrating the conclusion of our trip together with a few beers. Phil and I managed to spend a free night in a car park in front of Matt's hostel, so we were sorted! We'll start the rest of our road trip in the morning!
